Often, I feel an urgency, a pull, that beckons me into the woods. It is so powerful, that were I to resist, I would not be able to concentrate on any task, big or small. A restlessness permeates my being like a drug addict looking for his next fix. I can’t help myself, I must give in. Spirit is beckoning me through nature.
I enter the woods, my body relaxes, like an attunement to its natural rhythms.
As I relax, I immediately notice my senses becoming very acute. I am transported into the heart, soul and arms of Mother Earth. It is a communion, if you will, that fills me with pure ecstasy, comfort and joy. I hear her pulse, her breath as she gives of herself freely. It is one of the purest gifts one could ever receive. Step after step, I move with awareness, my ears tuned to her, my mind void. Gratitude, pure gratitude to be in this moment runs through my blood vessels. Silently, I thank our creator for all of this, here in this place, and thank the elementals for their hard work protecting and nurturing every blade of grass, tree, flower and animal that roams freely in these woods.
In my state of gratitude and heightened awareness, nature gives back unselfishly. The birds sing their songs of joy. A deer, munches in the grass between the trees. A little mouse scurries across my path. Chipmunks chase each other, jumping from tree limb to tree limb. Butterflies fly from flower to flower tasting the various sweet nectars. As each scene unfolds before me, spirit speaks to me, words of wisdom floating through my mind, touching my heart and soul.
I am transported, closer to the Divine.
